Energy Was Always the Real Alliance

For thirty years European security policy assumed cheap energy would keep flowing east to west regardless of politics. That assumption is gone.

The scramble to replace piped gas with LNG did more than raise bills. It rewired who Europe depends on, handing new leverage to Washington, Doha, and Oslo, and forcing Berlin to admit that its industrial model rested on a supplier it now treats as an adversary.

Energy independence is not a slogan here. It is the precondition for having a foreign policy at all.
